| The
Sharpe Angle
- William Hill, September 2002
Many
attempt to gatecrash the territory of Dick Francis,
few other than those with a racing name like Pitman
or Francome to flourish - make a go of it.
So,
top marks to Salisbury-born Barry Wass whose experience
of three armed hold-ups persuaded him to retire, and
who has written Silks & Saddlecloths (Janus £8.95),
a novel which visits 'the dangerous world of racing
intrigues and passions, of shady dealings and dopings'.
Anyone with
a feel for racing fiction has been into this world before
but Wass makes a decent enough fist of it to suggest
that he may have half a chance of gaining thoroughbred
status of his own.
